Fifteen Weeks

Had a nice, relaxing holiday and some much needed time off from work. I felt guilty a couple of times for sleeping in and sitting on my butt, but I remembered the wise words of a friend, “You’ll never have this time again, so enjoy it while you can. ” Yes, indeedy — 5 1/2 months to go. Yikes!

Surprisingly, I haven’t been too anxious about the baby/birth, but I did see “Knocked Up” this past weekend and I had nightmares that night about the labor. I enjoyed the film because I could relate to it, but the part where she went into labor… it scared me. It’s not like I didn’t know what happens, but I figured I’d worry about it in my 8th month!

I’m still feeling the same. Still waiting for the miraculous second trimester!

Second OB Appointment

Because I go to a practice, I will be seeing all the doctors other than mine. This includes a midwife, whom I saw yesterday for my second OB appointment.

The most annoying thing is spending 30 minutes just waiting to see the practitioner, but I suppose that’s the way it is with any doctor.

The midwife came in and asked me a bunch of questions that I had already answered a long time ago (have you ever had an STD? do you have any hereditary diseases in your family?, etc.) What irked me was it seemed like she didn’t even read my file. Lady, you’re wasting my and your time.

PizzaShe asked if I had any questions. I mentioned my concern with my weight gain as it seemed like my stomach was immensely large for just 3 1/2 months. She said my weight was a little over but not necessarily anything to worry about. She asked me what I ate yesterday. When I mentioned the 3 slices of pizza for lunch, she said I should just eat one and maybe add a salad. I thought to myself, “ONE? What the hell? I used to eat 2 slices when I wasn’t pregnant!” Then she lectured me on eating right, blah blah blah and I just tuned her out because I think I eat pretty well compared to most people. I rarely crave junk food and when I snack, I have fruit or yogurt. So, I got pretty annoyed with her and wondered if she’d ever been pregnant.

Second Trimester Anticipation

Fourteen Weeks
The holy grail of the 40-week pregnancy that I’ve heard about. In the second trimester, women wake up one day and suddenly become more energized, not nauseous (or less at least), and glowing.

I’m still waiting.

Hello?

First Trimester

I kept quiet during my first trimester because A) I didn’t want to jinx things; and B) I was too tired to write anything most days. But now I’m feeling better and can somewhat remember most of my first trimester, so I thought I should document it in case I decide to have a second child and wanted to relive the memories. (Because, apparently, women forget the experience after having a child. I think it’s the mind’s way of tricking you procreating again.)

Five-Six Weeks
Pregnancy Tests I find out I’m pregnant! OK, not planned, but nonetheless, happy news. We wanted a child, but weren’t being pro-active about it. So it’s a nice surprise. I panic for about 30 minutes about the sushi I ate a few weeks ago and the wine I had (the one time out of the year) I actually feel great — other than the sore breasts, but it’s nothing worse than PMS.

I go to my acupuncturist appointment and reveal the great news. He asks how I’m feeling. “Great!” I say. “I feel like I normally do!”

This pregnancy is going to be a piece of cake. I heard all those horror stories about morning sickness and fatigue. Well, obviously, having taken very good care of my body beforehand helps. And I just KNEW I wasn’t going to be one of those sickly pregnant women I always hear/read about. I KNEW IT. I’m so proud of myself.
