Since Peyton has reached 2 1/2, I have found that he has grown leaps and bounds. He’s speaking in full sentences — and sometimes, saying the darnedest things! Many of the things he says he picks up at school (two of which are, unfortunately, “stupid” and “caca”). But most of them are remarkable and funny like, “Raise the roof!”, which he picked up from his teacher during one of their school dances. (Yes, they’ve had two so far.) One of his latest things is to ramble on a bunch of words/sentences even though they make no sense. For example, “My husband went to town my parents come and get me my husband go here yeah.” He has a sense of humor and makes us laugh every day. I’m always thankful that we are blessed with such a great kid. He was a fairly easy going baby and is as a child. A pretty good eater too. This is why I often worry about baby #2′s demeanor. What if she’s the complete opposite?
Our neighbor’s cat, Rosa, has “taken us in.” Strangely, she showed up at our back patio the day after we put Zoe down. Since then, she has made regular visits and has even clawed at the door to be let in. And we do because I think Peyton enjoys seeing her. Last week, Rosa — per usual — met me and Peyton after I had picked him up from school. I let her in and — as we learned from friends who have cats — she’s very affectionate. Constantly rubs up against us and around our legs. I was busily putting away things in the kitchen when I tripped over her and one of her nails snagged my sock and foot. “Ow!” I said. Peyton asked, “What happened, Mommy? Rosa do it?” I said, “Yes, it was an accident.” Peyton shook his finger at Rosa, “No hurt my Mommy, Rosa! No hurt my Mommy! Stay away!” It was very cute. It reminded me of the baby rhino who drove the bully away from his mom.
The most recent Peyton development is that Peyton has figured out that he can get out of his toddler bed, turn on his lamp and open the door. At first, when we transitioned him to his new room and toddler bed, he did get up and tried to open the door, but was unsuccessful. Since then, he would lay in bed until one of us came in to get him. He generally wakes up at 6:30 AM and we would wake up later (on weekends) or get ready first before getting him ready for school. Yesterday morning, I found him sitting in his bed with his lamp on and the door open. Last night, I told the hub that he needed to child proof the doorknob as I didn’t want Peyton coming out after putting him down. I put him down per usual and went to use the restroom. Came out and saw the light on in his room. I walked in and found him with his Bob the Builder construction hat on and playing with his mini big rig. I must’ve scared him because he started to wail. It was actually all very funny. I hugged him and told it was time to go to bed, sang him a song, and left. No more disturbances after that. This morning, at 6:30 AM, I heard a thud. Looked on the monitor and there was Peyton with his lamp on and trying the door knob. I got up to get ready and checked on the monitor periodically. One minute he was trying to open the window curtains, next he was staring into the camera. Finally, I saw him attempting to take off his PJs, so I went in. He said, “I wake up myself, Mommy!” I replied, “You sure did.” We are going to try and teach him to recognize “7:30″ on his clock and let him know that he is not to disturb us until then.
In baby news, at this stage, I still feel very large. Terribly tired. It’s different from the first trimester fatigue. The fatigue that I feel is physical. I slept all day on Sunday. I just feel so drained. My hips and back are aching all the time. It’s hard to breathe. I went in for my bi-weekly check-up last week and am still measuring 1 week ahead. However, little girl has turned head down, so no worries there. As I previously mentioned, I have not gained as much weight as I did with Peyton. Sometimes the scale remains the same, I gain a pound, or I lose weight. This time, I gained 3 lbs in 2 weeks. I was surprised. Is it baby or me (and my penchant for sweets)? I have another sonogram in a couple of weeks to check on her size, so we’ll see.
